Translation for hinayukki@ShigotoshiteP’s song “Flower Tears” (花の涙), featuring MEIKO, KAITO, Rin, and Len.
Author’s comment
I made a song based off of Yoshiki-san’s picture1 “Flower Tears”.
Lyric translation
[Rin/Len]
The life of a flower, something transient, a person’s heart unfolding
Those memories are scattering, those tears are petals
[KAITO]
People’s encounters fading and faltering
Circulating and flickering time
When those blossoms eventually flourish
There will only be a doll that awaits the end
Those empty flowers dyed in color
The oblivion that will eventually come
These vacant eyes
begin to waver slightly
[MEIKO]
Counting the petals fluttering down
While the shattered sound echoes
Those beautiful days seared into my eyes
are fated to someday disappear
Ah, before this flower falls away
Before I come to forget everything
I will stay here with you
And mark down those days
Open
O flower bud, open
That dancing heart shall be petals
Fluttering down,
O petals, scatter around
O flower, open
Fall and dance as if you will soon disappear
[Rin/Len]
Open
O flower bud, open
That dancing heart shall be petals
Fluttering down,
O petals, scatter around
O flower, open
Fall and dance as if you will soon disappear2
[KAITO]
Those who tire and waver
Of struggling against others
The doll has forgotten
even the meaning of the opening flower
Those empty flowers dyed in color
These emotions blooming within me
These vacant eyes
reflect you
[MEIKO]
Into my hands come the petals fluttering down
Falling and overflowing as if they were tears
This flower that I know as my heart
is disappearing, along with my memories
[Rin/Len]
That heart that only gives rise to sadness
Should bloom and fall just like that flower
The feelings of those who can only destroy
Shall all be forgotten and disappear like the flowers
[MEIKO]
Ah, before this flower falls away
Before I come to forget everything
I will stay here with you
And mark down those days
Ah, until this flower falls
[KAITO]
Until I end up losing you
[MEIKO/KAITO]
I will stay here with you
And live in this transient state
Translator's notes
- So what’s the story behind this one? On April 1, 2017, artist Yoshiki posted promotional materials for an upcoming Vocaloid compilation album titled The Black Cat and White Magician, featuring a dream team of well-regarded Vocaloid producers…except the album didn’t actually exist and it was all an April Fool’s joke based on a dream producer Yukitsuki had once had. Among the nonexistent songs listed was one titled “Flower Tears”, supposedly by hinayukki, featuring MEIKO, KAITO, Rin, and Len, and described by Yoshiki as “A song telling a single story, overwhelming me with MEIKO-san’s heartrending voice and KAITO-san’s supporting her…with Rin and Len hanging around at a measured distance. It really gets you in the heart.” Three months later, hinayukki posted the above song with the comment “It got me wanting to make it, so I ended up making it.” [↩]
- The choral parts (written in italics above) aren’t actually written on the video or on hinayukki’s blog, but are in the data files posted with the song. Transcribed, they are: hirake ya / tsubomi yo, hirake ya / kokoro mau wa hanabira to nari ya / harahara / hanabira chirase ya / hana hirake ya / hakanaku maichire ya [↩]
