Suzuko Mimori (voice of Sora Takenouchi)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It’s really lonely, thinking that we were like relatives who got together every six months, and now we’re going to have a hard time getting together again. During the post-recording, we all had lunch together ♪ I was at the same table as Chika Sakamoto-san…I’m going to treasure that time ♪

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

I really felt that Yamato’s determination to get Taichi back was really cool, and that he’d gotten one step closer to really becoming an adult.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

We’re finally at the end! We all sung the ending song together ♪ It’s stuffed with the feelings of all of the cast and staff.
I’m really happy that I could be a member of the Digimon family as Sora!
Please go see it at the theater ♪

Atori Shigematsu (voice of Piyomon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It feels like you accidentally got caught into some time warp portal, or that you’ve ended up in a parallel, world, but ultimately you have to face the complicated feeling that this is, in the end, reality.
It was a very nice and fresh feeling to record with some time left, due to how theater screenings work.
Matsuzawa-san1, who played an announcer for the series, got to watch us do post-recording after her part was finished, and (she said this herself) couldn’t have imagined that a fan like herself would ever get to see this, and then actually get to go see it at the theater! I felt that passion coming from her.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

I just want to say “all of it!”, but…

Gabumon and Yamato
Birdramon and Togemon
Taichi and Agumon being so cool
Nishijima-sensei
The kids’ bonds with their partners

Post-recording involves recording when the animation isn’t completely finished yet2, so Director Motonaga said, “we made a lot of changes to the animation so we could match the power of the acting from the post-recording,” and it was really encouraging, and they really did put some unearthly things in the final product.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

We’ve really kept you waiting so long, but I’m sure this movie will reach your heart.
The Digimon will always, always, continue to live on and on within your heart.

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It was a long period of time that felt like a mere moment, and every time we recorded it was full of density, and as we went by Parts 1 and 2 and more and more post-recording sessions it ended up being a very valuable experience. Kinoko Yamada-san brought oolong tea to the recording site, and it was really delicious, and then during the break she drew some illustrations with everyone, and it left a huge impression on me.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

We’re finally at the climax, so there’s a lot of things to see, but I do hope you look out for a certain scene where a certain keyword becomes very important. And finally, the end of the end. The sweet and sour taste of unspeakable youth is overflowing, so definitely go and check it out!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

The post-recording for Part 6 already ended a long time ago, but I don’t quite feel it’s over yet. Maybe the feeling of “it’s over!” will finally hit me once the movie releases.

Koushirou had a lot of really long lines, but Part 6 was especially difficult because he said a lot of very serious and complicated things.

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Being able to play the same role, for the same series, for three straight years, made up a very special and precious time of the sort that I don’t know if I’ll ever have again. And to be in the Digimon series of all things, a series that I watched to enthusiastically in front of the TV as a kid, it really did somehow feel like some kind of miraculous stroke of fate. These were very, very happy days for me. I pray that I can continue to grow as a member of the Digimon cast, and, above all, as a fan.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

There are so many scenes where all of the themes that make up this series, like bonds, friendship, and partnership are transmitted to the audience in such a heartrending manner. I hope you can feel and accept that passion through the screen.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

When people grow from children to adults, I think everyone has to walk the path of having to overcome all sorts of internal conflicts and hardships. The worlds we live in can take different forms, but the universal impulses that everyone feels will never change, and that’s exactly why we empathize, and want to support each other. Digimon is a very important series that constantly pushes us on from behind. Please watch it to the very end.

Junko Takeuchi (voice of Gomamon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Between the Digimon team made up of those who were given the opportunity to play their old roles again, and the Chosen Children team who had to take on their new roles, it may feel like we all started off differently, but in actuality, during these last six parts, we all ended up exploring new depths and discovering new things together. And when it all ended, I thought, I really do want to do more with these people. I want to make this world more colorful…I do. And after we’d finished, I felt the warmth between our teams more than ever. They’re friends we could really rely on.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Digimon tri., with new friends.
When I think back to the beginning, there were times that were a bit confusing, but we all played together, and fought together. And thus, the Chosen Children and their Digimon joined together as one. Even though they had to endure many things as they lived on. Even so, I think this final part still lets you feel the same love for their friends as they’ve always had. So I’d say everything is a highlight! And I hope you watch it while thinking about all of the parts released thus far.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Since we’re at the final part, the story of tri. ends here. That said, all of the adventures and stories of everyone who lives in that world have to go on.
What will they come to accept, what will they come to value, what will they hold in memory, and how will they choose to push on forward?
Please continue to support them.

Miho Arakawa (voice of Meiko Mochizuki)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

The recording session felt like a dream, so I couldn’t focus myself that well, but once I saw the finished footage, I realized that this really was the last time after all. It’s a lonely feeling, and I really wish I could see more of how the kids grow!
By Part 6, we’ve all gotten a very firm image of what each character is like, and the atmosphere of the recording site was very warm, and it was a relief to the heart to be able to meet everyone at places like the post-recording and other events. I’m so, so full of gratitude!

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Seeing what happens to Taichi-san and Nishijima-sensei, and Hikari-chan…!
Part 64 already had so many things you couldn’t take your eyes off of, but the scene between Taichi-san and Hikari-chan left a particular impression. I think the feelings between them as brother and sister are really heartrending. Please look out for it.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Personally, tri. made me think very hard about that question, “what does it mean to be an adult…?” And I realized again that it means you have to continue pushing forward. I wonder what kind of message everyone else will take from it?
Thank you to all of the Digimon fans who have been following us on this journey so far!
We’ve finally reached the last part.
Look forward to it!

Yukiko Morishita (voice of Meicoomon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Meiko and Meicoomon got to meet everyone in Part 1. And then this and that happened, and, at last, we’ve reached the final part of the story. I went to the recording site thinking, we’ve finally made it here! My heart was pounding. Meiko and Meicoomon, who started out all by themselves, are surrounded by friends. And now they’ve got friends who encourage and scold them, and it made things very lively.
I think Part 6 is where you really get to feel it! I really hope you see it and think, “that was really good.”

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

There’s a scene where Meiko and Meicoomon get to talk to each other, face-to-face. It really does feel like it’s been quite a while since she could be face-to-face with Meiko like this.
It’s not a very long scene, but I feel that this scene shows the two of them communicating their thoughts very clearly, so I do hope you look out for it

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Thank you, everyone, for watching everything up to this point. We’ve kept you waiting for too long. We’re finally at the last part!

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It goes for all of the parts, but the really passionate scenes are the ones that imprint themselves on my mind.
Human drama, evolution sequences, bonds with Digimon, etc.
Part 6 turned out to be very dense.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

As always, it’s a story where exciting things happen and tear at the heart, and with those things come strength.
There are a lot of scenes I could name, but I think I’ll single out the scene about “opening the door to the future” that you can see in the PV.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

We’re finally here. We really are finally here.

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

The cast members are all friendly and warm, and they welcomed me even though I only joined halfway through, and it made things incredibly easy for me, and it was very easy to do my performance at the site. I feel that the way everyone came together as one to work on this series had the same bonds with the same solidarity as the characters in the story.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Everyone continues to hold their own even without Taichi in the picture, and it’s very cool. And I think the sight of Agumon, who continues to believe in Taichi and wait for him, will move you very deeply.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

This series went on for a very long time, but we’re finally at the last part!
I feel like the movie gets even more entertaining and full of impact when you actually see it at the theater.
So please come to the theater and watch!

Hitomi Yoshida (voice of Mimi Tachikawa)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

I was incredibly nervous prior to recording for Part 1, but all of the Digimon senior voice actors welcomed me with so much warmth and strength, and I got to be truly happy in the role of Mimi.
And in particular, Kinoko Yamada-san, who plays Palmon, brought me things like homemade blueberry jam, and a rare kind of oolong tea, and she did this every time we recorded, and it really gave me a source of relief through all of the tension.
It’s a really mysterious feeling, but I feel like the actors for the kids, and our Digimon senior voice actors, are like childhood friends that we’ve known for a long time. And I feel like it’s not quite over yet…

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

There are so many of them, but I might spoil if I talk about them…How about the fight scene with Birdramon and Togemon? Their teamwork is way too cool, and ah! I love them so much!!!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Thank you for all of your support thus far. We’re finally at the last part of Digimon Adventure tri. What kind of high school students have Taichi-san and his friends become? How do they go from being “Chosen Children” to “adults”? I myself had a lot of expectations, and a bit of anxiety about it. Having seen all six parts now, I feel like thre’s a huge hole in my heart. I wonder if this is what it means to be an “adult”. Each and every person watching this probably has parts they relate to, and parts that feel all too real. So, by all means, I hope everyone can be able to spend the end of their youth with Taichi, as their time as “children” comes to an end.

I got so lonely thinking about how my time with everyone was going to come to an end, and so I looked up at the studio ceiling (actually, the studio for this one had a lot higher of a ceiling than the ones we’d used before), and my thoughts started drifting to a certain commercial on TV, and I thought, “yeah, I absolutely understand that guy when he says he hates ceilings being too high.”5

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Namikawa’s final performance, which he put everything he had into, and the timing of where Wada’s song starts playing, and I really thought I was gonna cry. But then Mimi and Piyomon, who were sitting next to each other when we were watching the preview screening, were crying so hard that I got really worried about them, and so I ended up not being able to cry myself at all. (laughs) Let’s all go see it in the theater and cry!

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

I ended up involved with Digimon Adventure tri. for two and a half years, but the final post-recording really did without a hitch and with a good atmosphere. Thanks to what happens with Taichi in the story, I ended up coming into the studio a little later than everyone else, and I wondered if Taichi was feeling the same way I was.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Part 6 will really make you realize the meaning behind everything that’s been accumulated over five parts.
When will Taichi return to the others? And what kind of ending will the kids and their Digimon reach? And Omegamon…!? There are lots of things to see!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Thank you for supporting us for all this time.
I was full of anxiety at the beginning of all this, but now I can stand here with pride, and say that I’ve played Taichi, and I feel like I’ve evolved just a little bit within myself.
This final chapter has each and every one of our feelings in it.
Look forward to the release!

Chika Sakamoto (voice of Agumon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

I heard that the actors for the Chosen Children were really happy to be able to appear in a series they loved so much, but were also very nervous…but I think we as the Digimon actors were way, way more nervous about it.
Fifteen years…is a very long time. Have we lost our freshness? I think it ended up being a huge push for all of us. Can we pull off what we did back then? Can we pull off what we weren’t able to do back then? Can we still evolve with guts?6
Our partners ended up taking very good care of us old folks. In particular, seeing Hitomi-chan take such good care of Kinoko-chan brought a smile to my face.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Aaaargh! You kept us waiting for so long! Taichi~! Taichi’s return, where he looks so cool ❤
It’s a culmination of everything that’s happened since the original Adventure, and everything that’s happened since Part 1.
Everyone became so much stronger, and so full of resolve.
There was one particular scene that made me feel like I was flipping through a childhood photo album, kinda. It made me cry.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

We’re finally here…it’s a relief, but it’s mixed in and jumbled up with all the loneliness.
Personally, my heart was pounding so much that I forgot to breath.
Thank you for watching over all of us, all the way up to Part 6.
And be sure to breathe.

Yoshimasa Hosoya (voice of Yamato)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It’s already been a while since we recorded for Part 6, but it made me realize how much time has passed since Part 1.
All sorts of things happened, but this is only one thing that can be called an ending, and I don’t think I’ve ever been involved in one series for such an extended period of time before, so although I’m exaggerating a bit, I somehow started to reflect on it as a time I came to live through it, rather than just what we recorded or memories of what we did at the site.
Even now, Yamato’s “let’s go, Gabumon!”, one of the first lines I ever recorded as Yamato, and the “yeah!” I got back, has a strong impression on me.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

The scene where the kids finally come to choose their own future.
I felt it was a very harsh and realistic scene, more so than the things I’d seen in the kinds of anime I watched as a kid.
It really got me to start thinking about things, and it’s harsh in some ways, but very normal in others, and that depiction is something I feel can be supported by people of all ages.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Thank you very much, for supporting us all the way to Part 6.
Please go see it at the theater.
Do look forward to it.

Mayumi Yamaguchi (voice of Gabumon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about finishing recording for everything up to Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

When I first heard that there were going to be six parts, I thought, that’s so loooooong!, but it actually went by in the blink of an eye.
During the break, I was struck by how we, as the Digimon voice actors, kept slipping into old person talk during the breaks (laughs).

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 6: Our Future that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!” (It doesn’t have to be a scene you were in)

Look forward to a certain very wonderful scene with Yamato and Gabumon!
And Taichi comes in with a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaang and an ooooooooooooooooh!, so look forward to that, too!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 6.

Thanks to everyone’s support, we reached the goalpost at the end.
I believe there’ll be another miracle that lets us all meet again, so see you then!

  1. “Matsuzawa-san” = Chiaki Matsuzawa, an event host and announcer who gained a large amount of attention at the first DigiFes in 2014 (the event where Adventure tri. was first announced) when she openly cried onstage and admitted that she was a childhood Digimon fan, and was honored to be able to host such an event. She continued to be involved in hosting Digimon events thereafter, and was also given a minor voice role as a news announcer in Adventure tri. []
  2. Post-recording for Japanese anime generally involves having the actors record to incomplete animation (sometimes incomplete to the extent of being only timed storyboards), so the process that Shigematsu describes is fairly standard practice in the industry. []
  3. “Yuuko-san” = the original Adventure and Adventure 02 voice actress for Sora Takenouchi, Yuuko Mizutani, who passed away in May 2016. []
  4. Arakawa’s response to the second question has what I assume to be a typo (it mentions Part 5 instead of 6, but context indicates she’s probably referring to 6), so I’ve corrected it accordingly. []
  5. Yamada is likely referring to a pair of Daiwa House commercials that aired in the middle of 2017 about a couple with a husband who dislikes high ceilings and a wife who pretends not to know this and gushes about the high ceiling in their new house. []
  6. “Evolving with guts” refers to “Evolve with Guts!” (進化でガッツ!, Shinka de Guts!), a Digimon chorus character song that accompanied the original Adventure. []
