Natsuki Hanae (voice of Taichi Yagami)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Compared to Part 1, there were a lot brighter moments for this one, so I kept cracking up while reading the script.
Of course there were more serious moments, too, and this time they struck Mimi and Jou.
The two of them are now in high school, and so a lot of their relevant problems have come to the surface, so there were a lot of parts I could sympathize with.
The cast members also had an even better feeling of unity than we did for Part 1, and it was a great atmosphere!

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

We all head to a certain hot springs center, so I bet the high school-age girls will end up being a highlight for the guys? Haha.
Also, Rosemon and Vikemon are in the main illustration!
Be sure not to miss their appearance here!
And…the name of a certain prefecture comes out again!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

Part 2 is even more exciting than Part 1!
Also, there are some little references that fans will love, so please look forward to them!
I put everything I had into this performance, so please do watch!

Chika Sakamoto (voice of Agumon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

It’s so nice and peaceful, getting to see the Digimon hang out together and play around~♡ It’s so cute~♡
…or so you’d think, but then, a sudden crisis!
You get to see the Digimon evolve for a bit and they charge, bravely, into the fray, but then it feels like they can’t even get a single hit in, and then it’s like…
Ah…A-Ah…Look, I…I’m still here and ready to do it, but…
And then they all crash in one by one.

…The bath scene?…

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

Little by little, the children and the Digimon are growing.
It gets your heart pounding, doesn’t it? Let’s watch over them together.

Suzuko Mimori (voice of Sora Takenouchi)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Everyone went to the hot springs together, and there were a lot of scenes with Digimon and the kids all getting along and hustling and bustling and it really makes you feel relaxed.
During the post-recording, there were a lot of scenes where the Digimon and kids were bouncing off each other, and so because there were only four microphones, it was super crowded!! I think this kind of experience must be really unique to Digimon ♪
There’s a certain shocking turn in the story, and it really draws you in.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

The conflict within Mimi’s heart.
Since Mimi’s a repatriate from America, she was raised in a somewhat different environment from everyone else, and so there are times she can’t quite click with the way others see things…
But she didn’t give up, and reached a scene where she kept hitting against it until she could come to an understanding.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

The story starts to really pick up the pace during Part 2, and starts developing so much you can’t take your eyes off of it!! Especially in the second half, where some very unexpected things happen!! Be sure to take a close look ♪♪

Atori Shigematsu (voice of Piyomon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

I personally adore hot springs, so when I heard the Digimon were going to be going to Ooedo Onsen1, it got me super, super excited. I was looking forward to the collaboration, so I was really happy when they finally announced the project. Part 2 has a certain Digimon finally show up, but incidentally, during the closing cast party for Part 1, when we were going into Part 2, I remember the narrator, Hirata-san, saying, “Leomon, Numemon, Gazimon, etc…gimme any role you got, I’ll play anything!” I was really surprised, realizing how many roles he’d had.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

Seriously, the hot springs!
And with the hot springs come the yukata2. And Palmon and Piyomon are playing at being magistrates? And Gabumon finally…?!
There’s also the school festival. Meicoomon really shows of her ability to make everyone dote on her. And even during all of these fun little scenes, the mysteries get even deeper, and conflict starts to bubble. And the bond between Jou and Gomamon, and the evolution scene that follows, may make you cry some “DigiTears”!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

After I read the script, things heated up, and after we did the post-reading, my expectations went up, and I wondered what on earth it might possibly be like once they finished it. I can’t stop thinking about the evolution sequence for Ultimate-level, and it really makes you want to watch it again and again.
Everyone’s looking forward to this movie, but so am I. All the feelings accumulated in Part 1 are going to end up going even faster in Part 2, so I’d be really happy if you could enjoy your time with the Digimon as much as possible.

Yoshimasa Hosoya (voice of Yamato)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

The unbearable pain of having make important decisions in your life, wavering between the things you need to be doing in your life. Having to ask yourself “what’s actually important to me?”, and having to come to terms with yourself and settle on a choice, it’s a very human problem that requires a lot of strength to handle, and I felt that here. The children here are at the age where they’ve just gotten through puberty, and I feel it may well be only in this kind of series that you can get that feeling across. When you’re in that stage of not being quite ready to become an adult, what do you do?
There are times when you’re going to feel lost, and there are times where you’re going to start running away from those problems. But no matter what, the day when you have to make that choice will come, and you’ll have to face your true self.
You probably wouldn’t understand it very well when you’re the same age as “the Chosen Children of sixteen years ago”, but when you look back at it now, I think it’s a very important position to be in.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

Before you can have “determination”, you will inevitably have to have that thing called “internal conflict”.
I hope everyone watching it will be able to feel what lies in that space between “determination” and “conflict”.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

I read the script, and we recorded it in the studio, and this time I thought, this probably must be why they set this story in high school. I hope that each Digimon fan watching this can see something different in it, and be able to feel it to its core. Please look forward to the rest.

Mayumi Yamaguchi (voice of Gabumon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Part 2 has Gomamon getting all annoyed at Jou, I squee’d at his cuteness, and, at the end, got all mushy-mushy at seeing the bond between the two of them.
Also, I’m very happy that you all get to see Gabumon be all shy again, like we all know he should be.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

It’s a very Gabumon kind of “look at this!” recommendation, but there’s a little moment in the cultural festival scene where you can really see Yamato’s love for Gabumon, so be sure not to miss it!

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

The story has finally begun for real!, I realized. There’s still a lot of things to be worried about, but for now, let’s have fun~!, I thought! They butt heads with each other a bit, and it all gets them down…and when you look at it, and when you try to get through it, it’s still hard, but it’s still for the best!

The scene next to the river…The scene where Jou-senpai and Mimi-san open up their worries to each other. It’s a very heartrending and painful scene. But I wonder if those internal conflicts were exactly what let them grow a little more into adults. It’s a really good scene!

Jou expressing his feelings of conflict about having been chosen. You can understand his feelings very well, to the point it hurts. There’s a time for everything, and each person has to build their life in their own way.
“Growing up” feels like a really difficult thing, I thought.

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

When I first heard that Jou-senpai and Mimi-chan would be the main characters of Part 2, I got really nervous, but when I saw Mimi-chan and Palmon on the cover of the script, I was really happy, but it also made me even more nervous.
Once the time came for us to do post-recording for the main parts, I got a much stronger feeling of working “together with” Kinoko-san, who plays Palmon. It was very relieving to have fun playing together with her, and to have her supporting me during the battle scenes or the painful scenes.
There are some very heavy scenes, but there are also a lot of very fun scenes in Part 2, and we recorded it with a lot of laughter.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

All of it, of course! But you especially have to see Palmon and Gomamon’s evolution scenes! You get to finally see them reach the forms in the main illustration?! Also, I really, really hope you get to see how Jou-senpai and Mimi-chan find their “determination”. Personally, Palmon’s “much obliged!”, left a huge impression on me, so I hope everyone will listen to it and remember it. Also, Palmon and Meicoomon’s cosplay! Or more like, disguise! That’s also very cute! Please enjoy it!

Part 2 is almost here! I’m nervous for completely different reasons than I was in Part 1! I’m really scared, like, I wonder if you’ll all enjoy it? But I really do what you all to see it soon! My heart is pounding and I’m just pacing back and forth. The kids are growing into adults. We can all feel their anxiety and their fear — how will they be able to overcome that and press on? I really hope you get to see it in the theater. There are also all sorts of fun scenes like the hot springs and the school festivals, so I’d love it if everyone could enjoy it and laugh together. Please look forward to it!

When I first heard ahead of time that I was going to have to play Rosemon, I was like, “you’re kidding, right? What am I gonna do?”, and then when I saw the poster I felt like I had been hit by reality.
“My voice” and “sexy” are about as far apart as Japan and Brazil, you know.
The title of this movie, “Determination”, comes from what I needed to confront the prospect of being Rosemon.

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

Part 2 involves the kids’ everyday lives, so I considered myself the master of everyday life scenes, and played it that way. I let Agumon and Gabumon take care of all the cool scenes.
Personally, I thought back to the Tokyo arc of Adventure, when they briefly returned from the Digital World to the real world.
Also, for this movie, we have Leomon, who’s much like an older brother, and he’s very cute! Please have fun watching him interact with the Digimon!

There’s a huge fight, and then for this they get to have a bit of a break, and another one.
Please don’t think too hard about it and enjoy.
Also, I’d really like it if you paid a visit to Ooedo Onsen Monogatari, where part of this movie takes place.

Even just hearing the lines from Ikeda-san, who plays Jou, and Takeuchi-san, who plays Gomamon, touched me deeply, and I think it’ll be even more amazing when you see it on screen at the theater. During the recording, I was on the edge of my seat and staring at them so hard…(laughs) I’m so excited for you all to see it!

There’s a scene where everyone goes to the hot springs, and the slapstick comedy there is very amusing, so I hope you can watch it and enjoy. Also, when she goes into the hot springs, Mimi’s…Ah! I can’t say any more! Please go see for yourself at the theater!

When I first got to read the script, and I got to the final stop at the end, before I’d realized it my eyes were all red.
I laughed, I cried, and I remember thinking, this will absolutely be a very fulfilling piece of media.
During the post-recording, I had a chance to chat with Takeuchi-san, who plays Gomamon, and a lot of wonderful things came out of it, and so I hope you enjoy the movie.

Of course, it’s gotta be the Ultimate evolution sequence! All Jou has to do is drop that “I’m here now,” and Gomamon just has to respond with “I was waiting!”, and you can feel how cool that is, and you can’t miss the evolution scene that comes next! It’s a must!

Jou is an honest person who has a lot of loyalty to those around him, and he has to think about a lot of things before he does anything, and it troubles him. I was thinking about that while I was reading the script. Personally, I was pretty surprised by how excitable Mimi was.

In the end, I felt that everyone really did have worries that would be appropriate for kids their age, and that they’d have to hesitate before finding a way to proceed. Everyone had their own internal conflicts, but beyond that, they also had their bonds with their partners, and that came across to me while I was reading the script, and it brought a lot of passion to my heart. And, even at the post-recording site, the Digimon were very cute!

The scene where Mimi-san and Jou-san overcome their worries and internal conflicts leaves a deep impression on you. Their interactions with their partner Digimon really stir the heart, and what happens after that is also very moving. There’s also a very important scene where Hikari talks with Jou, so please pay attention to that as well.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

This movie is packed with a lot of surprises and exciting parts, very different from that of Part 1. As they consider what’s the right way to fight as Chosen Children, each of them have their own thoughts on it, which come out in their own ways, and we’re reminded about the emotional closeness between them all. Now that they’ve had their “reunion”, I think you can now get a better grasp on where the story is going. Please look forward to Part 2!

1. Please tell us about your impressions when you read the script for Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination, the atmosphere during post-recording, and anything that left an impression on you.

Since Meiko has just transferred into this school, there are still a lot of mysterious things about her, but I’m glad that her individual personality traits have gradually started to come to the surface in part 2, thanks to her interactions with the other “Chosen Children”. While I was recording an otherwise very serious scene, I got thrown off by a typo in the script, which doesn’t happen very much. You see, “Ramen” was written as “Ramon”. I thought, wait, is that some new kind of Digimon?

2. Please tell us if there are any points in Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 2: Determination that make you go “Please look at this! I highly recommend this!”

The scene where everyone got to run around at Ooedo Onsen was very fun. There’s also naturally the scenes where Meiko has a chat with the other kids, and Meicoomon has a scene where she communicates with the other Digimon, but whenever the Digimon just fall into bantering at each other, it’s so cute it makes you giggle!

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

How do the “Chosen Children” deal with their conflicts and moments of resentment…? It’s something you have to pay particular attention to with Mimi-san and Jou-san. It’s something you have to keep an eye on until the very end, so I really hope you look forward to it.

Hiroaki Hirata (voice of Leomon)

1. Please tell us about your impressions about recording for Part 2, and how you felt about getting to play Leomon after such a long time.

In Part 1, I only got to do the narration at the beginning, so I was a little disappointed, but I finally got to appear as Leomon in part 2, and play an active role in the world of Digimon! It made me really happy. I felt like I was finally back in my hometown.

When I played Leomon all those years back then, he was a tough, muscular warrior, I put my all into making him give off a very stern and solemn image, but when I got to play Leomon again for the first time in such a long while, I went to the post-recording with the same enthusiasm I had since back then, but I got told “Leomon sounds too cold”…It was a bit of a letdown, but I tried not to get too worked up and managed to play him in a very natural way.

2. Please tell us if there are any scenes in Part 2 that you think leave an impression.

When he fights with Ogremon, he acts in the same cool manner he used to have, but in the scene where he’s left to babysit Agumon and the others, he becomes a lot like a kindergarten teacher, and you get to see a new side of Leomon. It was a lot of fun playing around with the Digimon cast, and everyone in it was making noise and sneaking around, and I think those scenes will make fans very happy.

On the other hand, Leomon’s occasional awkwardness, and the way he treats Digimon with kindness, has a very humanistic touch to it, and you can tell that sometimes he feels sadness or loneliness. That’s one side of him I discovered while playing him for this movie.

3. Please leave a message for the Digimon fans who are looking forward to Part 2.

Part 2 shows you a very clear picture of the growth and changes in the relationships between partners, and it finishes off with a story that makes you go “oh, yeah, this really is Digimon after all.” In Part 1 I only got to be the narrator, but in Part 2 I got to appear as the representative character of the Digimon series, Leomon! Don’t miss the actions of Leomon’s tale, tinted with sorrow! What role will he be playing in Part 3 and beyond?! Please look forward to it!

  1. The references made by some of the actors to Ooedo Onsen Monogatari refer to the fact that the kids and their Digimon going on a hot springs trip during Part 2 was done as a tie-in marketing collaboration with the real-life Odaiba location of hot springs theme park Ooedo Onsen Monogatari, which opened in 2003. The real-life location thus had a promotional event to accompany the screening of the movie, along with collaboration merchandise. []
  2. Shigematsu refers to the traditional Japanese clothes (yukata) the kids wear in the hot springs. []
  3. Morishita invokes Tottori dialect in lines like this during her interview. She also uses Meicoomon’s tendency to refer to her seniors as “chenpai” (a lisp-ier version of “senpai“). []
  4. Morishita ends her interview with the “dandan” central to Meiko and Meicoomon’s storyline in Adventure tri., so I used the official English translation of “ta much” since I figure English speakers reading this will probably be familiar with it. []
