(Part 1: Reunion | Part 2: Determination | Part 3: Confession | Part 4: Loss | Part 5: Coexistence | Part 6: Our Future)

Natsuki Hanae (voice of Taichi Yagami)

1. On your character

I was filled with so much pressure to leave behind the image of elementary-school Taichi and, for Digimon Adventure tri., to play a version of Taichi that’s since grown up.
I kept referring back to the original series and put my all into Taichi.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

Our senior voice actors were very kind to us, and did their best to make the post-recording go without any tension at all.
When I first met Sakamoto-san, I was incredibly happy to hear her calling me “Taichi”, and it was also a huge relief.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

I know it sounds like I’m exaggerating, but I think this is something that’s totally irresistible for Digimon fans, so please pay attention to all of the scenes!

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I was watching the broadcast in real-time, so it’s a huge honor for me to be involved like this.
Please, by all means, go and watch the Digimon and the kids moving around on the huge theater screen.
Please look forward to the release!

Chika Sakamoto (voice of Agumon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I seriously never would have imagined that I’d see these children all grown up, so it was a huge shock, but at the same time I was thinking, yeah, but I’ve got a duty to do this right!
“Digimon” and I are as close as we’ve always been.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

The studio was all tense, somehow. But the children have a super-fresh “energy” to them and the Digimon are really like this~♥ you know?
There was that sort of energy, mixed the feeling of “hey, I’m back”, and it’s kind of a mysterious atmosphere, isn’t it?

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

When Omegamon fights, he’s so cool…

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

And the adventure is still evolving!
Let’s evolve together! With guts! ♥

Suzuko Mimori (voice of Sora Takenouchi)

1. On your character

When I was cast as Sora, I was very happy, but I also felt a sense of responsibility to not destroy Digimon fans’ image of Sora. Sora was the type who was a very mature, older sister-type character even back in elementary school, so when I was playing Sora as a high school student, I was focused on being able to bring out the motherly feeling and the overflowing strength of her heart.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

I was very nervous on the first day of post-recording, but Atori Shigematsu-san, who voices Piyomon, came and sat down and said “I’m sitting next to Sora~♪”, and it helped me calm down a lot ♪ I’m a pretty shy person, but Shigematsu-san came and kept talking to me during the break…and I was really happy!! And on top of that!! She and I have the same birthday ♪♪ A super-amazing miracle!
So from the very first day, I was able to have a lot of fun with recording ♪

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

Look out for Sora getting caught between Taichi and Yamato!
Both of them are very important friends to Sora, and because of that, she’s the kind of person who thinks, I have to get between them and help them make up when they get in a fight! She works so hard and is so reliable, she’s really like an older sister…or maybe more like a mother…Taichi and Yamato not being able to be honest with each other really brings out the feeling of them being trapped smack in the middle of puberty, and it’s cute.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I think this will be a movie you can enjoy, whether you were watching the original series as a child, or whether you’re watching this for the first time as an adult ♪ There are scenes where Digimon look cool when they fight, and there are parts where you can feel both the sweetness and the sourness of youth, so I hope you can enjoy it in all sorts of ways.

Atori Shigematsu (voice of Piyomon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I thought, “no way!”
When I was told that I was going to be playing Piyomon again, I was so happy I broke out into tears.
I was worried because this is a series people have loved for such a long time, but I remembered all of the earnest efforts I had back then and brought those back to play her again.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

The atmosphere in the studio was very good.
I was talking with Suzuko Mimori-san, who plays Sora, and found out that in some kind of amazing coincidence that we have the same birthday, but also, on the first day of post-recording, Mutsumi Tamura-san, who played Koushirou, gave presents to both me and Mimori-san, and I was very, very happy. Incidentally, when we were recording for Part 1, even though there were a lot of people in the booth at once, they would have Piyomon next to Sora at all times.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

There’s all sorts of things, like the Butter-Fly at the beginning, and the evolution sequences that just burst in, but please do pay special attention to Sora’s cell phone. It shows up for only a moment, but it’s a must-see!
And, well, in the end, the Digimon really do love their partners. They all differ in personality, but each and every thing they do is full of love. Piyomon dotes on Sora in such a way that’s so easy to understand.

Also, this is a bit more of a me thing, but…I got really excited when I saw the credits roll and saw someone with the same name as me. My given name, I mean, not my surname. I’m pretty sure it’s a fairly uncommon name. If you’re interested, please look out for it.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

Thank you to everyone for supporting us for so long. Thanks to all of your support, we can meet the older Chosen Children and their eternal Digimon. Part 1 has all sorts of scenes that should catch your attention. You’ll probably end up wanting to watch it multiple times. I’d love to share my thoughts on this with everyone.

And for those who are starting Digimon with this series, Digimon Adventure tri., I’d love it if you could go and experience these children’s first adventure as well. I guarantee you’ll really, really enjoy that story, too.

Yoshimasa Hosoya (voice of Yamato)

1. On your character

When I was cast as Yamato, I was very honored to be involved in a work beloved by so many people. At the same time, however, I was also very worried about whether I could match fans’ image of “Digimon”. Because the character designs had also already redrawn from scratch, I focused on matching that so it wouldn’t come off as uncomfortable.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

I felt that it was very important for us to be recognized as the Chosen Children by our senior voice actors who were already experienced with being in the Digimon series. Our first priority was to be recognized and accepted by our partner Digimon, so I put my all into it.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

Please look out for the reunion scene between the children and their partner Digimon.
Whether you’re a fan or a newcomer, I do hope you look forward to it.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I’m very happy to be involved with this movie, with so many people looking forward to it.
And for those who are already Digimon fans, I will do my best to make it a comfortable experience so you can enjoy this as a new Digimon work, and I hope you look forward to the rest.

Mayumi Yamaguchi (voice of Gabumon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I was shocked when I heard they were making a sequel, but I was very happy to play Gabumon, my very first role, again.
That said, I was worried if I could bring out Gabumon again when I was standing in front of the microphone.
But in the end, after all, the evolution sequence ended up satisfying.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

I was fascinated during the post-recording, like, the way these kids act out so brazenly in the story is completely different from how it used to be! How incredible~
And we old ladies got to chat and gossip all over, haha.
Once we finished, we went out for monjayaki~1

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

Once “Butter-Fly” started playing during the opening, I suddenly felt so deeply touched, like, ah, this really is a “reunion” after all.
Those adventures we went through back then came back in an instant, and I was reminded again of how amazing of a song Butter-Fly is, and how it brings up your anticipation for something exciting on the horizon.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I’m very happy to be able to meet everyone again through this “reunion”. I’m looking forward to whatever kind of adventure this will become.
Let’s enjoy this together!

Mutsumi Tamura (voice of Koushirou Izumi)

1. On your character

I-I’m Koushirou!!! You’re kidding, right?! I’m bursting with happiness! But also really intimidated! How am I going to say all of those really smart things!? I remember being incredibly nervous (laughs). But I think I managed to get his intelligence across. I’m so happy to be able to play an older version of him. I’ll do my best in the next part, too!

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

It was a very warm and comfortable place! The Digimon were eating things in the store, and it looked like it was delicious and they were very cute. So we followed that train of thought and went to the specialty store ourselves! And we treated our Digimon voice actor seniors ☆ And it was delicious!! When you see it, you’ll want to go yourself, too! Please, everyone, try it out ☆

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

Taichi and Yamato talking to each other…and Koushirou talking about tea behind them (laughs). It makes you think, like, I’m begging you, please, do a better job understanding what’s going on around you! But the easily-distracted Koushirou and the very kind Tentomon are so cute. Also, it’ll probably be hard to make out, but…at one point he says words in a different language!! And if that makes you think something like…Koushirou…you’re really amazing!…then that would make me very happy.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

This is a story about Taichi and the other Chosen Children reuniting with their Digimon, but I also hope that this will be a reunion for those who loved Digimon, with the Digimon! The battle scenes are also really cool!!! Please go watch it!!

Takahiro Sakurai (voice of Tentomon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I was very happy. I don’t get to do this kind of character much anymore, and it’s something very close to my heart because it was my first project as a member of the main cast. Tentomon has a very unique kind of personality that leaves a huge impression on you, so I had no problem picking up the role again at all. It was a lot of fun.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

They brought together both the nostalgia and the freshness. It was interesting to observe the gap between those who were nervous and those who weren’t. In some ways it felt like the newer cast was actually more relaxed…(laughs)?

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

All of them. You can feel the nostalgia, but you can also enjoy it as something completely new to you. I hope everyone will be able to have fun finding out what’s changed and what hasn’t.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

The kids have grown so much. That said, each of them seem to have grown up in different ways, and for some they’re so different it almost makes you feel a little uncomfortable. It makes you wonder what happened to them in the meantime? Please look forward to how each of them spend their time in different ways, and what kind of adventure comes out of it.

Hitomi Yoshida (voice of Mimi Tachikawa)

1. On your character

Mimi-chan, with the Crest of Sincerity. I had no expectations of landing the role, so I just decided to enjoy the audition and have fun with it. That’s why I still can’t believe it! And now that kind and straightforward Mimi-chan has become a little older…during the post-recording, my heart was swirling with all kinds of headcanons. I took the script full of love for Digimon, got myself excited, put my all into it, and recorded. I felt like Mimi-chan herself was pushing me on, saying, don’t go with the flow, be bold! This is such an important role, and to be honest, I’m still nervous…but I’m happy if I could get across Mimi-chan’s pure-heartedness. And I hope Mimi-chan, who’s now gotten much older, can shower you all with love too! I’m so, so happy!

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

Our Digimon voice actor seniors took the lead and created a warm atmosphere from start to finish, and, naturally, I was nervous, but I was somehow also wrapped up in a strange sense of security. And especially when I first greeted Kinoko-san, who plays Palmon, for the first time, she just immediately went, “it’s you…!!”, and I was so happy and grateful that she immediately accepted me, and in that moment I felt like my shoulders had lost all of their strength. And even though I was off to the side, when I heard her saying “Mimi!”, it was like I got a burst of energy. Having a partner is amazing!! Also, there’s a scene in Part 1 where the kids and their Digimon go out to eat, but all of us who had spare time after recording went out to go eat the same thing! It was a very happy moment for me and a very precious memory. I think it was very valuable time spent, and that it’ll be what leads us to what comes next.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

There’s too many to list…How about the “reunion” scene between all of the partners? Just hearing them yell out their partner’s names gets you excited!! Not just Palmon and Mimi-chan, of course, but also Taichi-san and Agumon, Koushirou-kun and Tentomon, Jou-senpai and Gomamon, they just slam you with one scene after another! And also, the battle scenes are cool!! There are cute Digimon and cool Digimon, too! Please enjoy watching both kinds!!

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

Digimon Adventure tri.! Has finally started!! I got to see it before everyone else, but each and every scene was really made with love! I still have a long way to go and there’s not much I can do yet, but I put all of my energy, love, and thoughts into my performance. I want to welcome the beginning of a new adventure with everyone else. And I would absolutely like everyone to appreciate the impact at the theater. Please look forward to the rest!

Kinoko Yamada (voice of Palmon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I was thinking that there was probably going to be some kind of memorial project, like a drama CD or some other small project, but I couldn’t have possibly dreamed that they’d do something on this kind of scale, so I was surprised, and also, at the same time, I was worried if I could do that same voice from back then? So while it may not seem that way when you listen to the recording, I was trying a bit harder than usual.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

The cast for the children were watching the original show when it first aired, so it was an incredibly strange feeling getting to work with them. But I thought, these kids are more confident and skilled than even I was back when I was recording for the original series, so I was impressed.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

First of all, the backgrounds are gorgeous! Look at the river water! The staff really worked hard, didn’t they? Isn’t it amazing? Look at the evolution sequences! The air space is amazing, isn’t it? I’m sure it looks even better when you look at it on a big screen. (But what’s gonna happen if they get attacked while they evolve?!) And the kids, they’re great, aren’t they? They feel right at home, don’t they?

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

To everyone who’s been waiting, and waiting, and waiting for these past fifteen years, we’ve really kept you waiting for too long! And to everyone who’ll be watching for the first time, be sure to watch it and get your excitement going! I personally can’t wait another second to see part 2!

Junya Enoki (voice of Takeru Takaishi)

1. On your character

When I was told that I’d landed the role of Takeru, I was so happy that I kept jumping around at home! When I was recording, I focused on voicing Takeru with a sort of cleverness that you’d think would be uncharacteristic of a middle school student, but in such a way that you still can’t forget that he’s a middle school student.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

When post-recording started, I was incredibly nervous, and I didn’t have enough composure to actually feel the atmosphere in the studio, but as the recording progressed, my tension relieved, and during the break I had a lot of fun chatting with the Digimon’s voice actors.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

The Digimon evolution sequences come with the song playing in the background, and they really do get you excited! Also, even the casual conversation scenes will make you chuckle or smirk, and so I hope you can enjoy every aspect of it.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I put all of my heart and soul into my performance. I hope you enjoy all of the different aspects of Digimon Adventure tri., the visuals, the music, the voices…please look forward to the rest!

Miwa Matsumoto (voice of Patamon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I was very happy. I’m honored to be able to participate in a series that’s so beloved by so many, even after fifteen years. Patamon…is actually a lot like me (or actually maybe he really is me), so playing him is a lot of fun.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

For this one, (for various reasons) I ended up having to be by myself during post-recording, so I was very envious of the group photo from DigiFes. As far as Patamon is concerned, this is actually the fourth “Takeru” (when you include the game)2. Of course, this goes for all of the actors, but Enoki-san is really sincere in his performance. He’s wonderful!

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

Koushirou-kun. He’s very interesting. Guh hoo hoo hoo ♥

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

Thank you for giving us so much love. I will continue to force Takeru to spoil me.

Junya Ikeda (voice of Jou Kido)

1. On your character

I absolutely loved the show when I watched it every week as a kid, and so when I was told that we’d be playing an older verison of the kids, I was very happy, but at the same time, I was also very nervous. But when the time came for me to actually play Jou, before I’d even realized it myself, I felt like I was looking at a version of him that had never changed, and I thought, if I could put all of my life force into him, I could bring life to a version of Jou into this world.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

There was a scene with monjayaki in the movie, and the day we did the post-recording for that, we decided to take that as inspiration and went to a nearby monjayaki joint. Our senior Digimon voice actors were also there, and I remember that I was very nervous, but we still had a lot of fun.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

The partner Digimon’s evolution scenes!! It brings you back to the old days, but is completely redone from scratch, and the Digimon’s coolness and amazingness start overflowing!! And also “that song” starts playing during it, and it gets you excited and hits you right in the heart! It’s a must-see!

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

To Digimon fans and Chosen Children all over the world, I’m a fan, too! I’m really, truly excited to see the rest of this story told, and I’m just thoroughly hooked. I want to gather up all of the feelings of everyone who loves Digimon, myself included, and put it into this series. Please enjoy Digimon Adventure tri.

I watched the original series air every week, so I’m honored to be involved in this.
Please, go and see the Digimon and the children moving on the big theater screen.
Please look forward to the release!3

Junko Takeuchi (voice of Gomamon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

Even now, I still remember the joy of getting to perform as Gomamon, as someone pushing along the dream adventures of young boys.
When I heard that they’d started on the sequel, rather than anxiousness, I was actually full of happiness.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

This time, Jou and Gomamon are a bit separated from the others, so we didn’t get to do that much chatter.
But my heart felt a huge push from Junya Ikeda-kun, who voices Jou, saying that Gomamon talking to Jou was “cute”.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

All of the scenes in this movie are worthy of the name “reunion”. I’d particularly like it if you paid close attention to the team of humans, who have grown up quite a bit. Please enjoy the movements of everyone’s hearts as they come a little closer to becoming adults.

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

Gomamon’s back!! This time I’m gonna have Jou hold me while he walks~!! We’re all same as ever, so be sure to support us as always~

M・A・O (voice of Hikari Yagami)

1. On your character

The moment I was told that I got the part, I was really, really happy. After that, I started to feel the pressure and the tension, but I also felt like I had to do my best at the post-recording and stick the landing. Back when I was watching the anime on TV, I got the impression that she was very innocent but also had herself together very well, and so I played the role focused on the idea that she would be the same as ever, and had grown up into quite the lovely girl.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

I was really nervous when we were greeting each other and running tests. I was already a bit nervous while talking with everyone during the break, but then once I stood in front of the microphone, my heart started pounding, like I’d forgotten my lines or something, and I ended up in some real trouble (laughs). But then, when Tokumitsu-san, who plays Tailmon, called me “Hikari” in the movie, I got really, really excited. There’ll be more post-recording in the future, of course, so I’d like to be able to sort out my tension from now on.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

I think you can feel the nostalgia from the beginning, but also the excitement coming from a new beginning. The Digimon voice actors’ ad-lib dialogue, and the way everyone reacts to Koushirou during his explanation scene, and other things like that are also cute and amusing, so I hope you look out for those. And in the second half, a certain character (Digimon) who was in the PV will appear, and I’m sure they’ll get you excited!

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

I’m so full of joy at the thought that everyone will finally be able to see Part 1, Reunion. I’ve put everything in this performance so that everyone can enjoy this new journey that starts from Part 1, as if everyone were traveling together once again. So, please look forward to the rest!!

Yuka Tokumitsu (voice of Tailmon)

1. About your feelings upon hearing about there being a sequel to Digimon Adventure, and your impressions about being in Digimon again

I was shocked, I thought, whoa, that’s amazing!! We’re doing it again~! I was very surprised.

2. The atmosphere during post-recording, and things that left an impression on you

The boys have gotten quite handsome, and the girls have gotten so cute, and on top of that, everyone’s so good at acting…the only memory I have is about how smoothly the recording went. I thought, these kids are amazing!, and I was incredibly impressed watching them.

Getting to see all of the Digimon voice actors again made me think, ah, this really is so nostalgic~.

3. Parts from Digimon Adventure tri. — Part 1: Reunion that you want people to pay attention to

All of them, of course! Maybe especially getting to see the children all grown up…And also, the monjayaki scene is amusing!

4. Please leave a message for the fans.

It’s only going to get more interesting from here! Please look forward to it~ And Hikari’s voice actress, M・A・O-chan, is really cute. Please cheer us on! And please look forward to the rest.

  1. Monjayaki = batter fried savory pancakes (although you may know this already if you’ve seen Adventure tri.). []
  2. The reason Matsumoto mentions Enoki being “the fourth Takeru”: he was originally played by Hiroko Konishi in the original Adventure series, then Taisuke Yamamoto in Adventure 02, and then Megumi Han for the PSP game adaptation of Adventure. []
  3. For some reason, Ikeda’s interview seems to have two iterations of the fourth question. I’m not sure if both of them are his answers. I decided to leave it there for the time being. []
